The Way To A Mended Heart Is Through My Stomach

Someone I love dearly broke my heart last week, and like many others who have experienced the same before me, I got a sudden craving to munch on something sweet. I looked in my cupboard and found some Betty Crocker Warm Delights microwaveable fudge brownie mix. I thought, "Score!", until I remembered that it was he who introduced me to this snack. I promptly put the container back on the shelf and looked for something else to soak up my tears.

Artichoke hearts? Um, no. Kettle popcorn. Better, but nope. Finally, I found a jar of Harry & David's Sweet Pepper Relish in the refrigerator. I completely forgot that I ordered it about a week ago and it has been sitting in the back of the fridge all this time. From a previous trip to Oregon, I watched as the demo sales clerk at the Harry & David store mix equal parts of the relish with softened cream cheese. I dug around in the fridge some more and found a half-tub of Philadelphia Cream Cheese left. I mixed the two ingredients up, occasionally dipping my finger in and scooping some up for a taste. Being upset and being the only one who will be eating this snack, I gave myself full privileges to do the finger dip and scoop.

As I sat on the couch, devouring my new-found snack, I wondered what other people munch on when they have a broken heart. Do they pick something sweet like chocolate cake or do they go for something more savoury, like meat loaf? So I pose this question to you: What do you eat when you have a broken heart?

[Editor--There were no real people hurt or broken-hearted in the making of this post. Any implication as such is merely for pure dramatic effect.]
